I don't know if you are superstitious or not, or what you believe in, but from a (my personal) purely buddhist view, having a mala, of all things, made from bone, is not necessarily a very good thing, if you are aware that it is made from bone, that is.

It used to be a sentient being. Which perhaps did not have a desire to be killed to me made into an object of "faith" or whatever.

For some, malas are purely jewellery or decoration. but it sounds like you bought it as a thing to be used for mantra recitation or something like that.... get it blessed, and burn or bury it. Get a new mala made from wood, bodhi seed or glass or whatever else.

just an thought.  :headbow:

bless it yourself. pure intention is stronger than formal qualification when it comes to certain things.

if you hold it in any way that you find is the most respectful to the remains of the creature you have in your hands, and with all your being and purest intent, bless it with your purest thoughts and intents for the wellbeing of it.

you have to be sincere and wish for the well being of the being tho, not just for yourself to be rid of the bad dreams and stuff.  :buddha:

In our culture, we would throw the mala in the river.

I would discard, without a second thought or any delay, any object which i felt like had this kind of a bad effect on me. I am uncertain about the possibility that it is not a matter of psychology but it doesn't matter, if you are uncomfortable because of this object, discard it, give it a proper respectful release if you feel it needs one so that you are no longer attached to it. if you feel it is un-restful put it to rest.
