Identify This Buddha
« on: June 14, 2019, 02:42:57 pm »
Hi,
I helped a friend move a Buddha statue for a yoga studio recently.  We did some research, but could not identify what Buddha this statue represents.

Can anyone help to identify her?

Thank you.

I don't thing the statue is of a female.

I't's a Buddha, probably Shakyamuni.

What's with the mask over the eyes?

Thanks for the info, I'll look that one up.

I was told that it's respectful to place a mask over the eyes when moving a Buddha...?

Dear doce

the mudra has a kind of similarity with the vitarka mudra which would be a mudra of the Buddha teaching.

That's interesting, thank you stevie.

That would also seem to confirm what Chaz said that this is indeed Shakyamuni.  From the few google searches I just did: "One can also notice the statues of Gautam Buddha, typically has his hand in Vitarka Mudra"

I never heard that, but whatever.  I was just curious.
