Hey there. I am not a Buddhist, but Buddhism is what is being discussed in my religion class currently. For those of you who do practice Buddhism.. I have a few questions that are open for anyone to answer. I'm just trying to get a better understanding of how different people view the religion. :)

-Is it common for the average young person to do things like meditation?/Is it common for children to practice meditating at a young age?

-Do you go to temple, if not what do you do instead to assure your faith?

-do you identify as Mahayana or Theravada?

-if marriage is in your future, would you be willing to marry someone of another religion?

Hello Kiki,

I am only a beginner myself in this religion and can therefor not answer all your questions, however I can answer some.
I do not know of an avarage age to partake in meditation, however I'm 100% certain this age will differ between areas around the globe. I myself am 25 years old and was born a Christian, the Christian religion is a common religion where I'm from (The Netherlands) and Buddhism isn't that well know here as far as I've find out. The main religions here would be Christianity, Judaism and the Islam.

I've only taken an interest into Buddhism this year, however during the months I did start meditation and because I still feel young I'd say I've started at a young age :).
Only due to questioning myself have I became drawn to Buddhism and deceided to follow it's teachings. And as of right now I'd identify myself as a Theravada Buddhist, however I migth be in a to early stage to say this with complete confidence.

I hope this will help you in any way.

Hi kiki--here's my attempt to answer your questions from my perspective.

Is it common for the average young person to do things like meditation?/Is it common for children to practice meditating at a young age?

[b]don't know--I've never seen any kids meditating at the monastery where I used to go, but sometimes they would just go there and hang out, offer some food to the monks and stuff like that. people I saw there would mostly seem to start in their 20's. i started at about 15.

[/color]-Do you go to temple, if not what do you do instead to assure your faith?

I don't go to a temple. I meditate daily on my own. Sometimes I join a small group of other Buddhist practitioners when I'm in need of community and discussion on Buddhist topics.

-do you identify as Mahayana or Theravada?]I've mostly studied in the Theravada tradition but also find I connect well with zen practitioners. I just like quiet places without many rituals and visual stimuli.

-if marriage is in your future, would you be willing to marry someone of another religion?

yeah I wouldn't care what religion people were--just so long as we have similar values like kindness.
