Malaysian student beaten and mugged by rioters
« on: August 10, 2011, 01:02:46 pm »
How about a little metta for this 20 year old kid from Malaysia?

He was mugged and beaten by rioters in London yesterday.

Someone stopped him and demanded his bike.  You can see the bicycle he was riding in this vid.  The thief is watching as he's being robbed by others.

He's bleeding after having his jaw broken.  Some strangers stop to help him up.  Or do they help him?...

I guess we should have metta for the idiots attacking him, but lordy it is hard...

The good thing about karma is you will reap what you sow and these thugs are creating causes for their own suffering. This poor guys suffering has now ended but theirs is just begining. Its difficult to feel compassion for them, Still if an animal attacks you its easier not to become angry with them because you know it is their nature and in the same way with these people they are slaves to their deluded minds which cause them to act like primatives on that basis some semblence of compassion can arise I would rather this arise in my mind then hatred for them as such will eventually lead to the same paths they tread.
A man sees the rope in the twilight he mistakenly apprehends a snake and develops fear. To remove this fear he must remove the mind apprehending a snake by realizing that there is no snake. Even then, if the rope is left in the same place there is a danger that the same mistake will be made in the future. The only way to remove this danger is to remove the rope. Similarly, sentient beings observing their aggregates in the darkness of their ignorance mistakenly apprehend an inherently existent I. This mind grasping at an inherently existent I is the root of samsara and the source of all fear. To remove the fears of samsara we must remove this mind by realizing that there is no inherently existent I.

Caz, you are a good man.

The Malaysian student's suffering is not quite over.  He's in hospital, but now getting the care he needs.  His name and identity are known, and we know he's going to get a lot of love and attention after this story spreads.

I do mean it too about having metta for the attackers.  There's no point in denying our anger, but they are in hell and they don't even know it.

The hardest of all acts of compassion is to not only act with compassion but actually feel compassion for those whose karma causes harm to us, to our loved ones, or to strangers.
