A haijab (headscarf) ban in Myanmar?

A group of Buddhist monks in Myanmar are attempting to get the government to issue a hijab ban, where it would stop young female students from wearing their headscarves in school:

These people call themselves monks, but the Buddha would not.

That makes me sad. People should be allowed to wear what they want to wear, unless in circumstances which require security measures such as removing the scarf or face covering for identification etc.

They say it's not for religious reasons... but Buddhist nuns shave off their hair or cover it for modesty just like Muslim women.
