Here in SEAsia people pay about 10cent to $5 for "powerful blessings", depending on if city or countryside. How much "take" (or is the unspoken price) for blessing-"monks" blessings in UK this time, proclamted by the blessing-monks managements?

Francis, my person is clear about it, that Francis and many are certain "doubtful" in the Buddhas good and right teaching about Dana, and it was clear that Francis will post here to defend his view (actually it supports Buddhas "not judgeless", "equanimity-less" but well judged and informed view). But the fact that there are always people miss-use the generosity developed by others does not mean that the Sangha-members, as symbol for right view, are the better receiver.

If a monk missuses the "power" given/lend to him by the Buddha till he does no more need to live on the gratitude (in giving him share of his and the Noble Sanghas reputation) it is totally his bad Karma.

For the giver should be known clearly: Exchange, either before or after, (teaching/blessing...) for what ever ("Dana", sellery, symbiose...) is a: not Vinaya, not Dhamma, a: "No go", a sighn "this is not one has faith or reached the stream", but a more or lesser worthy supported wordiling, using the Juwels to support his livelihood, "politic" and wandering on in becoming (bigger).

Never ever did the Buddha therefore allowed his monks such as a formal student-teacher relation between monastics and lay people (lay he even did not touch at all).

So be careful with this "foreign" benchmark-system of the "we like to safe all before we go" approaches.

If not liking to "failue", judgement (learning the good Dhamma and practice to be able) and taking full part is very importand, when making Dana, to get the message here right at least.

It's of course not wrong and great, if for example laypeople motivate others to meet the monks, but even those "practicing right by themselves and encourage others to do so (in meeting the monks)" would be not done by such (a practicing person) by calling for exchange and charging for "his possible costs".

Hydepark, there is even a public place legal given for public talks, if my person remembers right, and no "cost" necessary to be payed in advanced.

Aside that it is possible not so that such ideas are not well intended by monks and their students encouraged...

Of course a monk, teacher could even not be involved in what the lay people organize at all... how ever it looks for you.

Worng view and miss-use of Dhamma-Vinaya is not a birth, nation, lineage... thing, but the thing of the doer by wrong view and no faith for now to stick with simply rules.

Context for new-comer in ongoing/past discussion here, to understand. See especially end of teaching from Bhantes book.

Believe my person, it's not even for monks an ease to critisice dealer in Dhamma. My persons area here is full of Non-humans and thoughts of anger, the more when just "fighing" Malaria this days. It's not so that dealer have no teeth and certain skills.

So be careful and do not follow my person in that (criticising public) if in relation or dependend, but simply judge for your self, case by case. If one judges an innocent, even holly, of wrong livelihood, it' also a big problem: not because he would seek revange or is mad at you, but a case of kamma for the wrong critisicer. So good to leave those with needed good stand or certain already attained liberty such.

Here (where my person currently dwells), how ever (because Francis thinks it is typical in SEAsia), where such as a authoritive Sangha exists, will (as heared) be a public hearing tomorror of a abbot in the village who did very far from vinaya already for his livelihood. So even if not perfect, there is Sangha offical in this country invited by the king, government, while in modern world its a lay man and business appearence that comes with "Buddhism" and has therefore just wordily laws, and trade witgin there is not wrong: meaning no authority (Vinaya) at all. Why does such not exist? Because people are to greedy to give at first place to worthy ones. So one gets what one gives... cause and effect of each ones deed.

Worng doing is wordily and that's why we should practice to know right having seen by our self, trusting the good teachings at first hand.

I have watched this, I am very confused. It seems to me, and please feel free to explain the viewpoint I am missing, but the transmission of virtue and the blessings of understanding come from development of understanding and the effort of applying the wisdom of the great masters, not in direct transmission of their Karma or virtue or merit by a direct blessing or exchange of energy taking place without gained understanding by saying words of praise.

It's not really clear Anemephistus, what your approach is trying to make clear for you.

Just if it meets the point: giving a blessing is a deed of merits for the doer and he is the only who benefits from such.

Giving blessing (in letting people believe that such helps them, or such as merits could be transformed in such a way) as a means of livelihood the Buddha called "Animal-Trade" and being not only wrong livelihood but a serious matter for the Dhamma and the Sanghas reputation and accessibility in this world, a heavy offence which would require the assambling of the Sangha if done by a Bhikkhu. For those outside the Sangha of the Buddha, it's "just" a punch of bad karma, causing long time suffering not only for one self but for many.

So mainly Francis and my person had talked here about Animal-trade which as sadly but "naturally" nearly the only kind og economy of what they call Buddhism in modern world. The Benchmark-Trade.

"Accidentally", even this forum is generally subjected much by such advertisings with strings, it's ongoing discussion found here and possible made certain things in regard of foolish equanimity approaches and their effects clear.

There is no such as exchange of energy. One can give one can take and the path has to be done. That's all. No egg-cups, shows and juggler required. Thats just Animal-trade.

What ever one seeks for one gets. One is really powerfull blessed if having or knowing the greates blessings:

Quote
- Namo tassa bhagavato arahato sammā-sambuddhassa -

Maha-mangala Sutta: Protection/Highest blessings

I have heard that at one time the Blessed One was staying in Savatthi at Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery. Then a certain deva, in the far extreme of the night, her extreme radiance lighting up the entirety of Jeta's Grove, approached the Blessed One. On approaching, having bowed down to the Blessed One, she stood to one side. As she stood to one side, she addressed him with a verse.

Many devas and human beings
give thought to protection,
desiring well-being.
Tell, then, the highest protection.
The Buddha:
Not consorting with fools,
consorting with the wise,
paying homage to those worthy of homage:
   This is the highest protection.

Living in a civilized land,
having made merit in the past,
directing oneself rightly:
   This is the highest protection.

Broad knowledge, skill,
well-mastered discipline,
well-spoken words:
   This is the highest protection.

Support for one's parents,
assistance to one's wife and children,
consistency in one's work:
   This is the highest protection.

Giving, living in rectitude,
assistance to one's relatives,
deeds that are blameless:
   This is the highest protection.

Avoiding, abstaining from evil;
refraining from intoxicants,
being heedful of the qualities of the mind:
   This is the highest protection.

Respect, humility,
contentment, gratitude,
hearing the Dhamma on timely occasions:
   This is the highest protection.

Patience, compliance,
seeing contemplatives,
discussing the Dhamma on timely occasions:
   This is the highest protection.

Austerity, celibacy,
seeing the Noble Truths,
realizing Unbinding:
   This is the highest protection.

A mind that, when touched
by the ways of the world,
is unshaken, sorrowless, dustless, at rest:
   This is the highest protection.

Everywhere undefeated
when acting in this way,
people go everywhere in well-being:
   This is their highest protection.

Whether your are really blessed, after having been given the highest Blessing in line of the Dhamma-Vinaya, depends on your past and now current actions, take it, hold it, see it, nurish it or what ever one is capable according to his/her heritage and present effort. Beings are the owner of their actions.
