Im using ff and linux and i have never had the trouble you describe. Your problem is your operating system not your browser
Actually i take that back, ff did crash once recently but it had been open with multiple tabs and windows for a while, more than a week i would guess.

M mac just died (Tiger X / Safari/FF).

MAC OS and alternate between Safari and Firefox.

I used to own PC's, but after the 5th one died on me for no apparent reason (used great virus protection, did routine maintenance), I decided that Bill Gates was a demon from the Hell Realms. Happy with my Mac, will never go back. And Metta to Bill Gates for all the negative kamma...

Its really all about how you set up the interface. Linux is very customizable and you can make it as windows like as you wish. Also if you dont want to just dive right into the deep end, you could always do a dual boot install and see how everyone felt about it. In fact this is probably the best option if you all own any windoze only games that you like to play.

I've tried most of the browsers out there, and now use Chrome almost exclusively.  It's very fast and easy to navigate.  I also use Firefox, but tend to shy away from IE.  Opera is also good, but for some reason the graphics aren't as nice on my computer as Chrome and FF.  My OS is Windows XP.

Windows XP and Opera.  I need to install a version of Linux but my laptop's hard drive is too tiny and I can't afford an upgrade right now (and external drives keep dying suddenly on me).

I am a happy linux user. It's great not having to worry about virus or paying to get the new version of your OS.

I've used Opera as my main browser for 10 years (FF is too bloated for me and IE is the worst of the lot), but after Google Chromium became stable enough to use for Linux, I find myself using it almost exclusively. It's a terrific browser.

Hi Laura,

When I made the switch google took all my FF bookmarks and automatically added them to chromes bookmarks. I'm really happy with chrome so far. Everything seems faster!

Hardware support is pretty good with Linux these days unless you are using absolutely bleeding edge hardware that is not open-source friendly.

Seeing as IBM is one of the main investors in Linux and open source, I'd say you should have nothing to worry about.

Mine is a lenovo 3000 and everything here works exactly as it should.

Thanks!  I love the speed and simplicity of google chrome.  I think I'll make the switch right now 
I don't really use add-ons that FF offers even though some of them are neat.  I like my browser simple.
