« on: March 06, 2014, 11:58:32 pm »

The Dalai Lama came out in support of marriage equality
during a Larry King interview where he said that
he is OK with same sex marriage.

Another good reason to have much respect for the Dalai Lama. :namaste:
Remember, happiness doesn't
     depend on who you are
or what you have, it depends
    Solely on what you think.

Well, it's certainly better than some of his earlier statements, but the title of the article should have read "The Dalai Lama Says Gay Marriage Is OK If You're Not Buddhist"  --- flash back to 1997:

Quote
Dalai Lama Speaks on Gay Sex / He says it's wrong for Buddhists but not for society

As he prepares to meet today with gay Buddhist leaders, the Dalai Lama has clarified his position on the morality of homosexuality for Buddhists and non-Buddhists.

"We have to make a distinction between believers and unbelievers," the exiled Tibetan leader said at a press conference yesterday in San Francisco. "From a Buddhist point of view, men-to-men and women-to-women is generally considered sexual misconduct.

"From society's viewpoint, mutually agreeable homosexual relations can be of mutual benefit, enjoyable and harmless."

His comments were an effort to clarify statements in a book -- "Beyond Dogma," published last year by North Atlantic Books in Berkeley -- that upset some gay Buddhists.

I wonder if he's changed his position when it comes to gay Tibetan Buddhists --- back in 1997 he also said there were no such practitioners, denied their existence completely. Unfortunately this went over just about the same as Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's statement in 2007 that there were no gays in Iran.

Particularly, the Conservative Christian group believes that traditional marriage supported by civil law is between a man and a woman
However, since the Dalai Lama is Buddhist, he must be more liberal in Thought or more liberal minded but still conservative
It doesn't really touch on the heart of the issue which is actually about rights and preference No one really cares if you're gay, straight, or Bi-sexual
unless they have a vested interest in you as a potential partner or spouse.  :wink1:
