Title: 4 noble truths
Post by: Arkena on July 22, 2017, 02:30:20 pm
So i havent really penetrated the 4 noble truths beyond the surface level until recently...

Im interested in this topic , specifically in the aspect of the cause of suffering...and how to eliminate suffering.

I would like to read something that talks about mental habits that cause suffering a fairly detailed account of the various mental habits that cause suffering...not a generalistic over simplistic account like saying clinging causes all mental pain but fails to delve into the myriad manifestations one may experience.

Something that delves into various things like over thinking, over exicitement, guilt, blame etc

Some type of Buddhist psychology book on reducing/eliminating mental suffering? Is there such a manual that is both modern and recommended in buddhist circles?

Be referred to Samyutta Nikaya  (http://www.accesstoinsight.org/tipitaka/sn/index.html). There is nothing that goes beyond that in terms of buddhist conventional analytical understanding.

Hi Arkena,

You might find this 21 minute extract from a talk helpful :"Practising With the Four Noble Truths", given by Ajahn Amaro of Amaravati Monastery UK:

There's also a little book about the Four Noble Truths by Ajahn Sumedho :

Better than reading "Turning the Wheel of Truth" is "Turning the Wheel of Truth" which can perhaps be inspired by reading "Turning the Wheel of Truth", starting with the title at least.
