Yes.

All sentient beings have Buddha Nature.

Even Dogs.

According to the theory all sentient beings have Buddha Nature and the potential to realize it--even someone really evil like Hitler. However in his case he probably has a long long time in unfortunate rebirths before he resurfaces and gets his shot.

...or so the theory goes. :twocents:

Yes, all sentient beings do. A dog has to take rebirth 499 times(if I am not mistaken) before it can regain birth as man and then move on to Buddha-hood. The Buddha asked his disciples not to feed dogs cats, pigeons and pigs.I do not know the reasons for the other three animals but He said that the dog has karma from past lives connecting him with many ghosts.

Yet famous Lamas still keep small expensive lap dogs feeding them tsampa from their own plates and giving them water from their own cups.It could probably be that they have gained a certain level in the path so as not to be affected by their dogs' karma from past lives.

They can certainly teach us patience, compassion and selfless devotion, so must have Buddha nature, IMHO.
I was surprised to see that many of the temples in Thailand have a retinue of dogs, fed by the monks. I didn't realise this went against the buddhas teachings.
Sounds like there are plenty of monks who haven't heard the teaching.

In Buddha's time, before spaying and neutering, I would assume that freely breeding packs of feral dogs would have been quite a problem.

It seems we have enough cat lovers here to have a sub-forum.

I will throw a Nerf projectile at the first person to claim that cats are inherently Theravadan and dogs are Mahayana...

They aren't. Cats are inherently Mahayana and dogs are inherently Theravada. Cats are smart. :)
