Realising this, that dogs have buddha nature made me cry the other day. It also made me appreciate all humans good and bad.

Caring for animals softens people, or it can, so I am not surprised that your experiences with a dog led to this insight.  Good for you.

Every sentient being does
A man sees the rope in the twilight he mistakenly apprehends a snake and develops fear. To remove this fear he must remove the mind apprehending a snake by realizing that there is no snake. Even then, if the rope is left in the same place there is a danger that the same mistake will be made in the future. The only way to remove this danger is to remove the rope. Similarly, sentient beings observing their aggregates in the darkness of their ignorance mistakenly apprehend an inherently existent I. This mind grasping at an inherently existent I is the root of samsara and the source of all fear. To remove the fears of samsara we must remove this mind by realizing that there is no inherently existent I.

Caring for animals softens people, or it can..

Some people find animals easier to love than people.

You've been taught that there is something wrong with you and that you are imperfect, but there isn't and you're not.

Well, its said that pets among practicing Buddhists have been contemplatives of Bhikkhus in their previous live, but didn't keep their vows (or precepts).

That is why they still have much behavior like sages *smile*

As for cat and dog:

Dogs are animals that live in herds and seek for leader (gurus  :teehee:) while cats will only come if they are hungry or it is rutting season.

Take care of you precepts, vows *smile* On many places, those pets are beloved food. Must have its cause such an effect, I guess.

There's nothing stupid about buffalo, they are the most feared of all the hunted big game in Africa.
They're known for their protective instincts towards their young and kill more hunters every year than any other of the "big three" hunted species.

I am sorry to hear about Pickle.  He/she lived a long life and was obviously greatly loved.

Every dog will achieve the state of the Buddha in the time to come.
