Great horror, great doubt, right mindfulness
« on: January 26, 2012, 08:32:34 pm »
Horror intends to escape from the horrible.
Thus horror gives birth to mindfulness.
Mindfully not getting involved in the horrible
Is doubting the horrible upon arising.
Doubting the horrible horror ceases.
Great doubt is right mindfulness
Is abandonment, is renunciation.

Fear might bring one or the other to the middle path, but usually it guides people to run and hide where ever they feel save. *smile* *plopp*

Only if there is neither hope nor fear, we are able to gain right mindfulness. Or better to observe that well (this is hope, this is fear) and let go, will lead to right concentration.

Great horror does not cause fear.
Fear is within the sphere of the horrible.
Being within that sphere
Fear is abandoned by great doubt.

Horror is a mental construct, fear is the effect of it. There is no horror at first hand if there is fearlessness. If horror appears, and there is no feeling of fear, its good to lay aside the pain depressor and leave the shore of doubt. *smile* Go inside and it might really disappear for a bubble will not least. That is called the dive of saddha, kicking panna in the bottom.

Relay on the link of gripping, the chain will not bust.

We can call it mohayana *smile* The tree pulls it self down, put only if it still grows. Otherwise a beggarly plant will just die for another time, caught by maya in the bound of birth.

Take your time, my friend.
Once you experience great horror, you will see for yourself.
Great doubt is great bliss.

Yes my friend, and that is the reason why such things are no yana's at all. So what else could be their propose? *smile* Doubt leads indeed to stop, imagined, believed. The actions are yet not extinguished. That is the danger of wrong view and its daughter maya appears as charming friend, patiently, pleasant, sharing endless secure and all time ready to eat. Maya knows that it can relay only on immeasurable doubt.

Is this something you composed, or is it a quote from somewhere?

Great horror
Quote
"Monks, the All is aflame. ...

Great doubt
Quote
"He grows disenchanted with the ear...

"He grows disenchanted with the nose...

"He grows disenchanted with the tongue...

"He grows disenchanted with the body...

"He grows disenchanted with the intellect, disenchanted with ideas, disenchanted with consciousness at the intellect, disenchanted with contact at the intellect. And whatever there is that arises in dependence on contact at the intellect, experienced as pleasure, pain or neither-pleasure-nor-pain: He grows disenchanted with that too. Disenchanted, he becomes dispassionate. ...

Right mindfulness
Quote
"Furthermore, the monk remains focused on mental qualities in & of themselves with reference to the five clinging-aggregates.

"Furthermore, the monk remains focused on mental qualities in & of themselves with reference to the sixfold internal & external sense media.
...

unsustained by anything in the world.

Great bliss
Quote
"..."Therefore, monks, whatever isn't yours: Let go of it. Your letting go of it will be for your long-term welfare & happiness. And what isn't yours? Form (body) isn't yours: Let go of it. Your letting go of it will be for your long-term welfare & happiness. Feeling isn't yours... Perception... Thought fabrications... Consciousness isn't yours: Let go of it. Your letting go of it will be for your long-term welfare & happiness.

That is why Buddha warned for puzzling the Dharma and playing puzzling *smile* It might lead to the abstrusest ideas. And wandering thoughts running around.

Maybe its good to be lesser attached to the intellect, of cause.

There is not support for anything when great doubt is realized. How could there be reliance on ideas? Ideas of nibbana, ideas of noble life, ideas of greed, ideas of anger ... all the same ... all is aflame

Great doubt is a metaphor used in zen teachings having the same meaning Shakyamuni was teaching when teaching the abandonment of the aggregates.

Metaphors are great, as long as we don't grasp them and didn't get it the wrong way. I guess to comparing de-illusioning with doubt is very creative and not easy to follow, as de-illusioning is an effect of understanding while doubt is a matter of not seeing the way. So its more a privat-buddha thing I guess. ...I know the school of not taught teaching to experience a *plopp* *smile* Not to forget of who would be able to abandonment of the aggregates.

(Only for the case: Do not whistle-blow the secret of the secret, that is like if you tell somebody sitting joyful in a cinema, who is the mad man at the end of the movie. Some would get disinterested in buying another ticket next time.)
