Jhokhang Monastery Burns
« on: February 18, 2018, 06:05:31 pm »
Lhasa, Tibet

Saturday a fire started and burned the main shrine building at least.

Chinese reporting is at odds with other local accounts (video, etc).

This happened on the Losar holiday - the lunar new year in the Tibeten calendar.

There are people in the city from all over the world for the festivities.

The Temple is very important to the Tibetan people's national and spiritual identity.

How can a single event be so simultaneously sad and sinister.  How do you get the stars line up for that?

IOW, this sucks. Really.
