Possibly a touchy political subject
« on: September 07, 2018, 11:20:20 pm »
Not sure if this is the right place, if not, a mod, can move it.

I converted to Buddhism about 7 years ago, and it is the foundation of my life. With that being said-I'm an American, and for the last several years, I've found that certain political rhetoric has skewed toward a particular way of thinking, particularly, the idea that we could possibly face a Christian theocracy at some point. Are my fears founded? How can I better deal with these fears, from both a pragmatic and spiritual perspective?

I feel this sometimes, Have compassion for others! I can elaborate some if you like on that front, but on the other, what will the worry do exactly? Turn the fear to compassion and help others to understand the fundamental thinking that goes to love and compassion.

Dear friend. I think any "fears" about the current political situation in the United States are well founded. Tomorrow is the 17th Anniversary of a Totalitarian Coup D'├ętat most Americans failed to discern. "Christianity" is only a facade for this. While Buddhism is certainly a religion of Great Compassion, it did not arise to save the world but to let of attachment towards the world. I can suggest to fully acknowledge the merits of your fears and then pacify these fears. When greed & violence takeover the world government, unfortunately, the world will inevitably develop in a bad direction. Try to recollect the Buddhas; how peaceful, calm and free they are. Try to feel their love & goodness. With metta.

I think a christian theocracy in the united states is extremely unlikely, there are too many anti-christians here, and religious freedom has always been a cherished value of all the major institutions.

There's already a monetary theocracy though, but that might be shorter lived than you think
