'His head would split asunder'

I came across a line which made me chuckle in the Suttavibhanga, in which Gautama is asked why he doesn't offer a seat and stand up to the Brahmins, and Gautama replies that whom he could do such a thing for: his head would split asunder.
I can only assume that this means that either such a person is incomprehensible, or that he is impossible.
Perhaps someone with knowledge regarding this phrase could enlighten me.

"Without inner peace, outer peace is impossible. We all wish for world peace, but world peace will never be acheived unless we first establish peace within our own minds. We can send so-called 'peacekeeping forces' into areas of conflict, but peace cannot be oppossed from the outside with guns. Only by creating peace within our own mind and helping others to do the same can we hope to achieve peace in this world."
