Hello everyone
« on: November 17, 2011, 01:15:33 pm »
Hi

I've been meaning to join the forum for a while now so I thought I'd 'bite the bullet' and finally do it!

I live in the North of the UK, I'm male (didn't think my name or avatar shows that) and I live with my girlfriend and three year old daughter. Oh, and rougly 35 animals! I've been searching for answers to life's questions for years and have tried organised religion, new-age philosophies and everything inbetween. Finally I picked up a book on Buddhism (not the first, but certainly this one spoke to me) and realised it described a lot of my issues and may provide some help.

In a nutshell, without being a whinge I'm currently experienceing money, work and home issues and am very unhappy with who I am.

So.... here to learn!

Hello my friend !  ;D
A man sees the rope in the twilight he mistakenly apprehends a snake and develops fear. To remove this fear he must remove the mind apprehending a snake by realizing that there is no snake. Even then, if the rope is left in the same place there is a danger that the same mistake will be made in the future. The only way to remove this danger is to remove the rope. Similarly, sentient beings observing their aggregates in the darkness of their ignorance mistakenly apprehend an inherently existent I. This mind grasping at an inherently existent I is the root of samsara and the source of all fear. To remove the fears of samsara we must remove this mind by realizing that there is no inherently existent I.

Hi Squinky, just wanted to say welcome to the forum. I hope you find the answers you're looking for in Buddhadharma, I certainly did. Sorry to hear you've been having a hard time of late. One of the great things about dharma is you learn to see and appreciate the good qualitities of suffering, it's the beginning of the path. I don't want that to sound glib or like I'm downplaying your situation though, I've been through similar times and it's really tough. I pray you will find some inner peace soon

I'm in York - maybe not as far north as some but seeing as I'm from Cardiff it's enough for me! And it's such an incredible city I can't ever imagine leaving.

Strange, since I posted my first message I got a phonecall out of the blue which resulted two days later in a new job with a 50% payrise! Life changing really. I have decided to use the extra money to send my daughter to a really good school - I honestly can't think of anything more valuable than education.

So the question is: Is there a some kind of new forum member's luck I've stumbled across? hehe  ;D

  <3

If people could send you protection and good karma they of course would.
You have made a commitment to change.

Good luck in your efforts  :)
