Hello From Turkey!
« on: February 17, 2017, 11:31:44 am »
Hello everyone! I'm from Turkey and I'm new to Buddhism. I really wanna make Buddhism my lifestyle. I think meditation is the key to understand yourself and the universe. I really need friends to teach me how to meditate, how to get over stress and things like this. Love to you all and peace :)

Hi, emrys:

Welcome to Freesangha.

I admire your zeal in that you are sharing very personal and intimate information, and also asking excellent questions.

As for meditation, I would begin by just sitting comfortably whenever you can and just observing your breathing.

After you become familiar with your breathing patterns, then focus on the activity within your mind, keeping your hand on your chest to stay in touch also with your breathing, too.  Don't try to control any aspects of the mental factors (thoughts, feelings, memories, insights) just let them arise, dwell, and then pass away.  Note how this occurs until you become familar with your mind and all of its quirks and regular patterns.

Later on take note of your posture, to assure that you are sitting in a stable and comfortable manner.  The key to good meditation progress is comfort and stability.  The rest will follow over time and with practice.  I have provided a meditation study for your review:

What Makes an Elder? :
A head of gray hairs doesn't mean one's an elder. Advanced in years, one's called an old fool.
But one in whom there is truth, restraint, rectitude, gentleness,self-control, he's called an elder, his impurities disgorged, enlightened.
-Dhammpada, 19, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
