Title: Trying to stay mindful...
Post by: ewomack on July 29, 2017, 09:24:52 am
We seem to live in times that make mindfulness difficult. Or perhaps people have always lived in such times.

Anyway, I'm Ed and I'm a beginner and I always hope to be one. I've started down the path of studying various aspects of Buddhist practice, especially meditation, and am just looking for a community to bounce questions concerns off of and to share experiences.

Hello all!

Hello

Mindfulness always takes discipline. As does right speech, ethical behavour, kindness etc. It is difficult to be dukkha independent. To be wise enough and patient enough to help our confused self and others ignorant or self obsessed behavour and so on.

We try.  :namaste:

We seem to live in times that make mindfulness difficult.
If life in these times would be inherently different from mind it would be possible that life affects mindfulness.

Or perhaps people have always lived in such times.
All times have been 'such times' as to mind's characteristics.

Anyway, I'm Ed and I'm a beginner and I always hope to be one.
you're one and we're two, that's for sure.  :wink1:

Have a good time

I think that it is not as much about the times, as is about our tendency to get carried away with all the stimuli and hustle around us that makes it difficult to be mindful. Developing immunity to emotions helps stay mindful in chaotic daily life.

Indeed.  <3

Much of that chaotic hustle is of our own making and karmic choices. One of the primary Buddhist responses is meditation, a realisation of where the chaos really starts and ends  :namaste:

ground, I mean no offense by this, but might you consider adopting less convoluted language when engaging with people? Maybe to make things as plain and easy to understand as you possibly can so that it is clear to pretty much anyone at any language level and is not boggling to them or alien sounding? I know that you know what you are saying and very likely enjoy that style, but I think it may not be very effective in transmitting clear messages regarding what you are saying.
