"Center of the Sunlit Sky" Ch 6
« on: December 14, 2011, 05:01:17 pm »
Tashi Delek!!!!!!!!!!!

Have any of you guys read this?  Anything really worthwhile?

Id really like just a copy of Ch 4, 5, and especially Ch 6: "An outline of some major differences between mikyo dorje's and tsongkhapa's inerpretations of centrism", but dont wanna pay that hefty fee of 30-50bucks for just those pages.

Anyone know where just a single CH may be available?

You mean a kind of black copy or some ways to get it without paying for something which is made to get money from it? *smile* Well this grasping.

Wish you that somebody will give it to you freely. If not don't worry. Dharma is always free given, so you might not miss much relevant things.

Haven't read it  but have delved into "In Praise of Dharmadhatu" by the same translator/author. He's very good. If you are interested in the subject maybe you should break down and buy it. You can always sell it to a used bookstore after you're done with it...
 :twocents:
addall.com has a used copy for $32.

Warning: I'm enough of a fundamentalist Tibet style Buddhist to believe that for the last 1,000 years Tibet has produced a handful of enlightened masters in every generation. I do not ask that YOU believe it, but it will greatly simplify conversations if you understand that about me. Thanks.

Interlibrary loan is the way to go -- try it out for free.

No, not necessarily for free.  That would be nice though.  Im sure if I thought and meditated upon it I would not need the commentary, but, alas I cannot cite 'meditative insight' on my bibliography. :)

Im looking for this particular commentary.  Ive read a few commentaries on Chandrakirti, and just read 8th Karmapa's commentary, but would like for someone to explain what it is I have read and how the 8th Karmapa canmaintain a 3rd turnig view on Candrakirti while tsongkhapa does not.

Interlibrary loan is a good idea, dont know why i didnt think of that.  Ill just photocopy the whole dern chapter.

Last, yes, I own In Praise of Dharmadatu and its sequel Luminous Heart.  I have yet to read them because my studies have led me to the main exchanges between Tsongkhapa, Doplopa, Gorampa, and 8th Karmapa.   I have not begun understanding their differences fully, but they seem mostly semantic.

In Praise of Dharmadatu and Luminous Heart are on my agenda once I work through this particular interchange.  Honestly they look rather daunting, so I shied away from them when I could choose whether to currently focus on tibetan renaissance philosophy or earlier kagyu philosophy which immediately included: I have broken these up into doubles for my own pedagogy in order to handle/read/understand them better, though Im sure there would be a more ideal order in which to read them, which I have yet to completely research.  But this is my tentative order (with In Praise and Luminous Heart being the crux) :

Ornament of Clear Realization with commentary by Khenchen Trangu Rinpoche

Uttaratantra commentary and translation by Khenchen Trangu Rinpoche,
Uttaratantra commentary and translation by Jamgon Kongtrul,

Buddha Within - Susan Hookham, analysis of Uttaratantra
A Direct Path to the Buddha Within-golotsawa's interpretation of Uttaratantra

Distinguishing Phenomena and Pure Being with commentary by Ju Mipham and Khenpo Tsultrim,
Distinguishing Dharma and Dharmata with commentary by Khenchen Trangu Rinpoche,

In Praise of Dharmadatu,
Luminous Heart

So, once I finish the gloss of the renaissance Im working on Ill be gasping for air just like you, my brother!

Thanks for all the good ideas erbody!!!!!

Edit:
Just sent a request to interlibrary loans, so hopefully it is out there somewhere waiting for me.

There's a bookstore going out of business near me in a couple of weeks that carries it. You've provoked me to wait until they make deep discounts and see if they still have a copy. It really belongs on my bookshelf (if not in my head).

Hey all, I had an account explosion, so Samadhi is now Mini-Senge.

That sounds cool Cj (is CJ ok?).  I havent heard anything back fro interlibrary loans, so Im still waiting!  I really just want to read Dr. (I presume) Brunzholz's comparison between Tsongkhapa and Mikyo Dorje.

How's 'In Prasie of Dharmadatu' going?
