Any sutras that talk about the effects of karmas?
« on: July 03, 2015, 07:01:30 pm »
Hi I was wondering if there were any more sutra going over the specific effects of karmas like the cause and effect sutra as I found the cause and effect sutra incredibly helpful to read :)

Hi Kyle, not sure if you were looking just for Mahayana Sutra's, but there are a couple of suttas in the Theravada Pali Canon contained in the Majjhima Nikaya (Middle Length Discourses), numbers 135 and 136. 136 particularly, which "reveals subtle complexities" and "overturns simplistic dogmas and sweeping generalizations" (according to the translator Bhikkhu Bodhi) They can be read online at "Access to Insight".

Another resource well worth a look can be found here........

http://www.accesstoinsight.org/lib/authors/nyanaponika/kammafruit.html

This is just one of the essays found in the book "The Vision of Dhamma" by the German born Theravada Elder Nyanaponika Thera.

There is also a very short pithy saying of Ikkyu....

All sins committed
in the three worlds
will fade and disappear
together with myself

.....but such is beyond me at the moment.  :bigtears:
