OM AMI DEWA HRI - Huh?
« on: July 05, 2010, 04:46:41 pm »
I collect mantras here and there, and being enamored by Amida I stumbled across a mantra I've never heard before, is often repeated on the Net, but I can't find either a literal translation or anything beyond rather vague and broad things about the mantra's alleged meaning.

Can anybody be of help?

Thanks!

Came across one piece of the puzzle:

"He is a Buddha, a fully awakened being, which is considered to be higher than any deva. The word deva comes from a root meaning “to shine” and so you could take the name Amideva to mean the same as Amitabha, which is “infinite radiance.”"
