Renunciation of Avalokitesvara

I just saw that on 15.Oct will be the celebration of "Renunciation of Avalokitesvara". I am sure there are many how know what is it about.

Would be great if you like to share some infos about the Renunciation of Avalokitesvara it self and the cultural aspects of this celebrating.

Wow, I really hate to say this, but Hanzze really seems to drift in and out of a rather inconsistant (and patronizing) pidgin.  It is humorous in doses, but when it clogs up all the forums like this it is just annoying (and rather offensive to some I imagine).  I understand that we have non-English speakers on the board, but this is rather obviously silly.  If I am wrong, I apologize in advance, but as a student of language and pidgin specifically (although not Asian) it seems kind of obvious.  Just my cynical, illogical take.

I took my lay vows on Kawn Yin's day two years ago. But the day we had it in out Monastery it was Holloween and a full moon too. It was a great day.

Not really. All I know that it's Kwan Yin's Renunciation and it's for lay people to do thier vows.

Dont you think that it was the day that she/he took vows seriously? I thought there is no different between renunciation (abstain from unwholesome deeds and livelihood) and keeping or taking vows. *smile*

Well, She would have to take it seriously.  Otherwise She would have never became a Bodhisattva. And I do think they are the same.

I did the lay vows on Holloween. I have 16 days. Not two.  Thank you. When I did them, I did feel great. And over the last two years, I realized that my life was changeing for the good even though I still do things that are bad. But I know that because of Avalokitesvara's help that I became a better person.

So you celebrate not your own renunciation but the help of Avalokitesvara? *smile* In which kind does he/she helps you to keep you own vows?

So the celebration is maybe a kind of "thanks giving" of maybe the power of Avalokitesvara?
