The Flower Garland Sutra & Buddhabrot
« on: December 16, 2014, 08:10:41 am »
Hello everyone.

Last year I read the Sutra of the Lotus Flower of the Wonderful Dharma, and it mentioned in the last chapter about the Vast Flower Garland Sutra, also known as the Avatamsaka Sutra, or the Flower Ornament Scripture. Well, I found the ebook version on Amazon for $40, and I'm almost half way through it.

It appears to me as though it is describing the "Buddhabrot" fractal, which can be viewed here,

The Sutra keeps mentioning a "Supreme Array", am I correct that the Supreme Array it mentions is indeed the Buddhabrot?

Thanks!

Hi Dustin and welcome to FreeSangha.

You might find some of my old teaching resources beneficial --- they're related to Chih-I's commentaries on the practice of the mahasattva bodhisattva found within the Flower Garland Sutra:

PS: Forgot to mention this earlier, but I'm pretty sure that Buddhabrot is only a play in terminology, where it's just a different way of examining Mandelbrot's own theory:
