Strange experience meditating- would love some advice :-)
« on: September 09, 2015, 01:34:23 pm »
Hi all

I hope you're all well. I't been a while since i've been here, and a while since i've been meditating- but back again :-)

I would really appreciate some advice/ thoughts on my meditation experience i had today. I live in rural Spain so have no access to a teacher (which would probably be the ideal thing right now!). So the experience...

I was doing a meditation on awareness of breath and had been doing so for around 30/40 mins (i know this as it was pretty close to when i finished!). The breath had virtually dissapered from observation and my mind was very quiet. Suddenly it was like i was drawn into my mind and everything went really bright blue and pink and my heart race went from slow to super fast. I felt pretty elated at the same time, but then i think i started to get scared as it was so unique.  I tried to reconnect with my breath to calm down but the experience continued and so i decided to end the meditation. Its been hour since this experience, and i have been feeling incredibly aware and mindfull compared to how i usually do after meditating(cant tell if it's good or bad..!).

Is this a normal experience/ should i worry or how should i deal with this if it happens again? It was a completely unique experience for me, so im feeling a bit confused right now and would really appreciate any advice someone has!

thank you

Johnny

Hi...

Here's a talk given by Ajahn Chah, translated to English, read by Ajahn Amaro
http://cdn.amaravati.org/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/11/Part-1-Ch05-Evening-Sitting.mp3

The nimittas described is similar to that described in Visuddhimagga by Buddhaghosa.

Hope u find the acceptable answer that enables you to progress in the right path towards your aspiration.

May you be well

Your experience is a good sign. But stop thinking about it or making any deal of it. Just keep practicing until omniscience.

Thank you all for the replies. I found the talk really interesting- especially as what he spoke about 'nimttas' were very similar to what i have experienced and at the same point in the meditation process. So really great to have this reassurance and knowledge that im not going crazy!!

My advice would be to let it go.

Knowing that you aren't crazy might be overrated as well.   :headbow:

I would have to agree with Yagr's advice, but I would also add that it's more common to limit your session of meditation to 20 minutes.
