thoughts during meditation
« on: March 11, 2016, 05:14:54 am »
hi everyone
i am a bit confused about what to do with thoughts that arise during meditation.
some guides say that the mind needs to be completely quiet others say that you need to watch the thoughts arise and fade
and some say just ignore them.
what i do is to "cut" them, what i mean by that is when i notice a thought i block it and return to the breath.
is it wrong thing to do?

Dropping or cutting off thoughts and returning to breath is what I do too.

I am no expert, but dropping is more a Shikantaza practice, where watching or noting is more  a Vipassana practice.

I don't think anyone can say one is right or wrong. See what works for you best. I think it is the act of returning to the breath that is important.
