Please PM about sensitive matters
« on: April 07, 2010, 06:57:24 pm »
As we want to keep the moderating as transparent as possible, at least for now, you will be able to ask us questions or lodge complaints. Please PM about sensitive matters. Sensitive topics might be deleted at request or after being sorted out.

I'm afraid these instructions lead me astray.

PM who, and how?

Lodging a complaint about a moderator will often be a "sensitive matter." What's the threshold for a private message?

"Keep the moderating as transparent as possible..." seems to encourage a public message.

Hi Timbo,

The moderators of the forums and subforums are listed on the index page under the forum heading.  You could PM the moderator of a given forum to which the issue applies, or either of the Global Mods, or the Administrators.  You can send someone a PM (private message) by clicking on the Moderator's name which will take you to his/her profile, and then select the option for sending a message.

The Global Mods are Matt and Caz.  Wonky Badger and  0gyen Chodzom are Administrators.  You should be able to find their names by clicking on the "Members" link at the top of the page.

I hope that helps some.  And if you're ever unsure who you can PM about a sensitive matter, you can write to a volunteer staff member with whom you feel comfortable, and that person can help you to address issues that might be too sensitive to post about on the public boards.

I would say that all anyone can do is use his or her best judgment about what might be a private matter.  There's not a distinct threshold that I'm aware of at this time, but a complaint about another member or a moderator might rise to the level of a private message if you don't want to involve others in the issue.  But as I said, it's really a personal judgment call.  I hope that helps, please let me know if more info would be helpful.

Kind wishes,
Laura

Hi Laura,

Thank you for your comments.

I'm not upset. I appreciate your suggestions. By trial and error I've mostly figured those things out by now.

I just meant to say that Free Sangha might be slightly improved, and some future problems might be prevented if the instructions for the Mod-Con forum were improved a little.

Cheers,

Timbo
