Some help please
« on: November 26, 2014, 05:31:18 am »
Hi all

I've been wanting to ask some questions for a while but keep forgetting!  I'm hoping I can put forth some of my queries here and add if needed if others spring into my mind!  I've added this in the NKT section as I follow (well try) that tradition.

1) Guru Founder Prayer - I've only come across this once in my retreats etc. so was taken by surprise and it was at an empowerment.  I wanted to ask, is this normally repeated three times, and at what point would one normally begin the prostration?

2) Mandala Offering - I don't have a mandala kit but I noticed some people using a hand gesture but I couldn't see exactly how it is done.  Can someone explain how this is done and at what point/what it is for so I can do this also?

3) Would it be acceptable, when entering a temple or a centre's meditation room with a shrine to take the time to prostrate as you enter?

Hope these make sense and I really appreciate any help.

Thank you!

Hi Alex

1. The Guru founder prayer is at the beginning of a few sadhana's generally if you don't know when to make a prostration watch for when others do it- Prostrations usually start at " To you we bow and go for refuge "

2. The hand gesture is representative of a mandala and is performed during the short mandala offering or if you haven't got a mandala kit. Ask someone at your centre how to correctly perform the hand mudra.

3. Yes its good to make prostrations when you enter a shrine room or temple as a sign of respect traditionally it would be 3 half length prostrations.
