California Annual Dharma Celebration
« on: February 05, 2013, 06:56:47 am »
Hey! I'm not sure if you all know this already. This has been shared around some of my friends and I thought it would be nice for all of us to rejoice in the efforts of Kadampa practitioners in California who are now organising a Dharma weekend in February. There main website is here http://cadharmacelebration.org/

It looks that there will be a Dorje Shugden empowerment, and also other teachings for different levels of practitioners.

It is such good news. Thank you to the Kadampa people for always preserving the teachings to share it far and wide!

I have been hearing that there will be another California Dharma Celebration again this year (February 2014) but have not been able to find any details.  The website still has the 2013 info up.  Does anyone know the dates, venue and/or scheduled events?  If not, no problem-- I'm sure it'll be available soon.   :)

Well, I got the information I was looking for... went to prayers at my center today, and one of the things they had available was a small card with details for the 2014 California Dharma Celebration.

It'll be Friday, 2/21 to Sunday, 2/23... at KMC Hollywood (http://peaceinlosangeles.org/).  Gen Kelsang Rigpa, one of our U.S. Spiritual Directors, will be there and will give "The Blessing Empowerment of Buddha Maitreya & Teachings on a World of Loving Kindness".

I'll post here if anything changes.  Looks likely that I'll be there.

What will you be wearing so that we can recognize you?   :-P
What Makes an Elder? :
A head of gray hairs doesn't mean one's an elder. Advanced in years, one's called an old fool.
But one in whom there is truth, restraint, rectitude, gentleness,self-control, he's called an elder, his impurities disgorged, enlightened.
-Dhammpada, 19, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

In any case, the event has been postponed "due to ongoing construction" at the venue.

And it was eventually rescheduled in June 2014.  I wasn't able to go - scheduling conflict - but I've heard it was really great.  :)  Maybe next time!
