Looking for Friends in NKT
« on: April 13, 2016, 12:43:35 pm »
Greetings all.  My name is John and I have received just recently returned to NKT.  I took refuge in 2001 from Gen Kelsang Sangkyong at The Glen Spey Kadampa Meditation Center, before the Temple was built.  I was a student of Kelsang Sangkyong's for a few years.  I drifted away from Buddhism for a while, but now I wish to resume my practice and study of New Kadampa Buddhism.  I live in Yardley, Pa. 19067.  I am disabled and travel for me is difficult due to autoimmune disease, specifically I have Ulcerative Colitis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, and Fibromyalgia.

I am looking to connect with other New Kadampa Practitioners for friendship.  If you feel like it, please write me at Johnor3@gmail.com

I was wondering if NKT offers a correspondence course?  I was enrolled in something like that years ago.  It was the foundation class and we were studying "Joyful Path of Good Fortune".  What I would like to do is to resume my practices of daily meditations on Lam Rim and the Heart Jewel Puja.  I am seeking to make a connection with a teacher so that I may do this all properly.

I am also in the process of reading Geshe La's book, "Modern Buddhism".  I feel that I have a Karmic connection to NKT and Geshe La because I understand Geshe La very well, and he explains things so marvelously and clearly.  He teaches deep things and makes them very clear to the layperson's mind.  I have great love and devotion for Geshe La, JeTsongkhapa, and Dorje Shugden.  I do not know why I stayed away from NKT so long, but I think I had some things in my life to work out.  All in all it really is a Joyful Path.

It is good to be here and I rejoice coming back to Kadampa Buddhism.
Thank you,
John

Welcome back, John.  :)

I'm a Kadampa practitioner in Phoenix, AZ. I'll send you an email when I get a chance, but figured I'd just say Hello here for now.

I'm a student in the Foundation Program at my local Kadampa center. We have a significant number of students in the program who participate as a correspondence course, so it's very likely that would be an option for you.

It looks like there are two Kadampa centers in your vicinity; you'll find their info at:

and

May you be blessed by the Three Precious Jewels, and always come under their care.

Hello and thank you for the kind reply.  I did e mail the Philadelphia NKT center.  I joined up in the correspondence FP.  I should receive my first audio of the class tomorrow.  We are studying Joyful Path of Good Fortune.  I found it ver y easy to pick up where I left off years ago.  I am doing what my old teacher called the Lam Rim Sandwich, Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa, Lam Rim Meditation, and the condensed Sadhana of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.  This is detailed in Geshe La's book Heart Jewell.  I am seeing good results already.  I am disabled and have three illnesses that cause me chronic pain.  I was getting very depressed due to dealing with my bad health.  Since I started doing the meditations again I have found myself in a happier state of mind.  Not. So surprising because that is what meditation is supposed to do  :D .  E mail me when you have time my friend.
Wishing you all the best!   :namaste:
