NEW KADAMPA BOOKS, CD'S, IMAGES ETC.
« on: January 25, 2010, 11:08:55 am »
Here is a link to a web page which explains the content of each of the NKT Books. Simply click on the menu on the right hand side on one of these generic headings and it will take you to a list of books under that heading:

http://kadampa.org/en/books/

The headings listed are:

    * Basic Books on Buddhism and meditation
    * Intermediate books on Buddhism and meditation
    * Books on Tantra

Alternatively, there are explanations of them on Amazon and on the NKT's own publisher's site, THARPA:

http://www.tharpa.com/

The page has links to its online shops supplying different countries.  I will use the US site for convenience:

BOOKS:  http://www.tharpa.com/us/meditation-buddhist-books.html

AUDIO BOOKS: http://www.tharpa.com/us/meditation-buddhist-audio-books.html

ART (POSTERS, CARDS ETC.): http://www.tharpa.com/us/buddhist-art.html

PRAYERS (Prayers Booklets, Audio Prayers and Printed Prayers) :
  http://www.tharpa.com/us/buddhist-prayer.html

Most NKT students begin with one of these books:

    * Meeting the Buddhas
    * The New Meditation Handbook
    * Introduction to Buddhism
    * Transform Your Life
    * How to Solve our Human Problems
    * Eight Steps to Happiness

If you are looking for one to start with, I recommend The New Meditation Handbook as it explains basic teachings of the NKT and contains 21 meditations based on the Lam Rim stages.  A broad overview of how Buddhist practice may improve our lives is in 'Transform Your Life'.

'Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand' by Pabongka Rinpoche, edited by Trijang Rinpoche is available here:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0861715004/ref=ox_ya_os_product

I have been reading through it and it provides an excelllent insight into the teachings Geshe Kelsang Gyatso received himself, and provides a good source of teachings which contextualise those familiar teachings within the NKT, such as those within Joyful Path of Good Fortune (my all-time favourite book on Buddhism). ;)

Just got Geshe-la's new book yesterday. A fantastic presentation of Kadampa Buddhism today explaining most basic practise right up to HYT, A great book.  :D

A man sees the rope in the twilight he mistakenly apprehends a snake and develops fear. To remove this fear he must remove the mind apprehending a snake by realizing that there is no snake. Even then, if the rope is left in the same place there is a danger that the same mistake will be made in the future. The only way to remove this danger is to remove the rope. Similarly, sentient beings observing their aggregates in the darkness of their ignorance mistakenly apprehend an inherently existent I. This mind grasping at an inherently existent I is the root of samsara and the source of all fear. To remove the fears of samsara we must remove this mind by realizing that there is no inherently existent I.

I think this is still only available inNKT centres and from Tharpa.com.

Amazon and the Book Depository are taking pre-orders but have no stock yet.

The new book is described thus on Amazon:

''Product Description
Based on teachings from the Kadampa Buddhist Tradition, Modern Buddhism is a special presentation that communicates the essence of the entire path to liberation and enlightenment in a way that is easy to understand and put into practice. The emphasis throughout is on the practical application of methods for improving our human nature and qualities, and not on a merely intellectual understanding. By developing and maintaining compassion and wisdom in our daily lives, we can gain profound realizations that transform our lives, improve our relationships with others and enable us to look behind appearances to see the way things actually exist. In this way we can solve all our daily problems and accomplish the real meaning of our human life. With compassion and wisdom, like the two wings of a bird, we can quickly reach the enlightened world of a Buddha. This handbook of daily practice is perfectly suited for inspiring beginners who are seeking solutions within Buddhism to their problems of everyday life, as well as for encouraging long term practitioners to complete their practice of the Buddhist path to full enlightenment.
