dharmagoat has left the team
« on: November 29, 2009, 11:38:28 pm »
I'm sad to inform you that dharmagoat has left the moderator team. He was shaken by the recent negative development at buddhist-community and was afraid that it would spread to here. As it seriously disrupted his practice he decided to withdraw from the online communities altogether. I respect his decision and support it, but I also want to say that I will do everything in my power to keep this forum from crumbling because of ill will and spammers.

We will be recruiting more moderators and I'm in the progress of investigating different solutions to keep spammers away.
My actions are my only true belongings.
I cannot escape the consequences of my actions.
My actions are the ground on which I stand.

I think the BC :atroll: finally got to him... or at least it was related to his frustration.  Whatever else may have happened, no idea.

Unfortunately always the way.
Thats the problem at Buddhist forum, many of the sensible and sincere members left, scared off by the trolls/troll.
I think we need to stake our claim, not run.
The sensible majority should prevail.

It's a shame that Dharmagoat left but I can see why the kinds of negativity that are going on on BC might upset practice.  I recently joined and then left BC as I found that the site was too far gone to be saved.  The attacks on it were vicious and sustained and I know that by leaving I was contributing to its demise but I felt like there was not a lot else I could do.  Careful, even handed moderation can eliminate the threat as can awareness that these things happen.  We have all seen what has happened to BC and hopefully, should anything like that start here, it can be prevented - not by bickering and name calling, but by to treat the trolls with compassion and not responding to their desperate attempts to feed their egos.  After all, if you feed the beast it will get bigger and stronger.

That particular troll has already been banned from FreeSangha.  This site is currently safe from trollz.

Oh, this is sad.  I left B-C before things got really bad (as I have been told on this forum).  I hope dharmagoat comes back here one day.  If I meet him on another board I will give him updates about FS.

And has Thornbush left as well?  Onaquest?  It seems the ES and BC meltdowns have really disrupted some of our relationships.  I like those guys, and learned a lot from them.  These online "Sangha" are my only real Buddhist contacts, although, ironically I live in a Buddhist culture.

I hope we can keep FS functioning and inviting to experienced people such as these and to relative novices (among whom I number myself).

I think Thornbush left to pursue more offline sangha involvement.  He's left all forums.

I know what you mean though, these online relationships are really nice when they're supportive and conducive to practice  :)

Kindly,
Laura

It's sad to hear about this... trolls aside, it's important to remember that no one can walk your path for you, so care should always be taken in how we respond to others. More often than not, we fail to take into account that even our particular understanding(s) of the Dharma are not concrete or static in our own practice.
