New registration agreement
« on: November 25, 2009, 12:58:50 am »
We have adapted a new and simpler registration agreement, about half the lenght of the previous one.

One change is that it is no longer allowed to hold multiple accounts. Please delete any extra accounts you have and keep only your main one. When we notice members with multiple accounts we may delete some of them without prior warning.

If you have any questions about this, please don't hesitate to ask.

Only one comment:

Perhaps there should be a mandatory review of Terms of Service before registering to make certain all participants have reviewed TOS.

This would of course make the reading time which you just shortened.....aahhhh...."longer". :D
What Makes an Elder? :
A head of gray hairs doesn't mean one's an elder. Advanced in years, one's called an old fool.
But one in whom there is truth, restraint, rectitude, gentleness,self-control, he's called an elder, his impurities disgorged, enlightened.
-Dhammpada, 19, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.

Well, there is an add-on that forces new members to spend a certain time on the TOS page, but those intent on not reading it still won't. I don't know a good way to make people actually read it.

Tell folks it is bad bad karma to deliberately not read it, and meritous karma if they do read it!    :huffy:

I honestly don't think it's a big deal.  The TOS are a legal thing, so that if there are issues from lawsuits we can say that we had our TOS in this manner.  It's a contract.  If they choose to agree to it without reading it, that's their issue, not really the forum's problem.  It's up to the individual to manage their own legal rights.

And yes, it doesn't hurt to remind them that reading it is more helpful and beneficial for forum interactions.  At least you know what you're getting yourself into...
