Also, you guys might want to mention this contest on some design or webmaster forums.
I had thought of promoting it on Twitter with the #contest hashtag, but then I realized that we'd might get a bunch of people registering for the sake of the contest and not being interested in the site or content. I guess the same might happen by promoting it at those kinds of sites. But then again, I guess the prizes might not be extremely appealing to non-buddhists.

Yeah, if you were offering cash, I'd be more concerned that it would attract that were just in it for the money. Since you're not, I don't think you'll have much problems.

Of course, I don't think you specified a requirement that somebody had to be Buddhist in order to participate in the contest. IMHO, if you get a really good logo out of it, I don't think it would matter if a non-Buddhist did it. Plus, promoting the contest might draw a few more people to the forum itself.

We didn't do it so much for the logo. I think several of the staff probably could whip up a fairly good logo. Mostly we wanted to do something fun for our members. It's no fun if an "outsider" registers, snatches the prize and then never logs in again. Since the only prerequisite to take part is that you are a member they could do so anyway, but I wouldn't like to encourage it.

Sandy, it looks very nice. We have one a bit similar as our image on twitter for now (that I snatched from the Wikimedia commons). If you want to, you could enter the contest with a submission based on the one in your picture.

Sorry, I have no idea what vector format and all the other graphic design jargon means. But here´s my proposal anyway. This is a silver penchant I shot with my cellphone camera. The photo was then doctored with Irfanview. By pure accident the silver turned out to look like gold. Alchemy? :stir:

This is a really nice concept!!  Don't worry too much about vectors and graphics, we can probably adjust any submission to be real slick in vector format.  Just get the ideas churning... remember you have 2 entries!

Thanks for all the feedback. I changed the font. Not sure about the purple, but if others like the font changing the color is easy. I really like the comic fonts, but I know some others don't, so I might still change it. I dunno.

I thought about adding some mala beads in there, but thought it might be too much clutter. If the logo has to be scaled down to a banner or button it might end up looking like a mess. I don't really want to add a reflection for the same reason. Something like that might look good animated in flash though.

While I love me some comics............... that totally doesn't work for me lol Sorry hun, I love the rest but that purple comic font really sticks out. Keep at it, you're doing great!

Some thoughts for the competitors:

  • It does not have to be a banner, so don't worry about size.
  • Trouble with harmony? Limit your palette - work with a few color tones rather than all kinds of colors.
  • Transparent background or opaque?
  • Consider the theme of the forum for ideas, what represents an open minded community focused on the Buddha's teaching for you?

Good luck guys!

I just wanted to remind you all that the competition closes in about two weeks, 15 Feb. If you want to, your submission may be anonymous. I will need to know who you are of course but in the poll that everybody may vote on, your submission may be nameless. Don't forget to send your submissions to wonky(a)freesangha.com!

Thank you.

I would also be happy to assist in the overall design of the forum if needed.

Thank you.

I just noticed my username ends with 'badger'...and there is one very important 'badger' here already. My apologies, I was careless in choosing my username. Admin, please feel free to change my username...gratefuldodger would be fine. (I'm not sure if I can do that myself.)

UPDATE: It appears I can change my username...which I just did! Thanks!
I think this town is big enough for two badgers if you want to keep your username.  :cheesy: 0gyen Chodzom has been working on a new theme. It could be possible that she'd like a helping hand with the design.

Ha! You caught my post before I edited it. That's okay, I think gratefuldodger will be just fine.

Glad to assist if needed.  :anjali:
