Title: The passing of Dharmakara

It is with great sadness that I have to inform you that Dharmakara, our main moderator, has passed away. He's not been logged on for about a month and we couldn't get in touch with him. Finally meez managed to get in contact with someone at Dharmakara's housing unit that said that he had passed away unexpectedly a few weeks ago. We have very little information at this time.

Dharmakara's miniature pinscher Tigger was taken by animal services and we currently don't know what has happened to him, but in case he is still alive and hasn't already been adopted, we're hoping that we can find someone that would be prepared to give him a few more happy years.

Please keep Dharmakara in mind and feel free to include him in any practices appropriate, according to your tradition.  :headbow:

DK, we had lots of chats about practice and Freesangha in general. I hope in your next life you find Buddhism quickly and continue to serve all sentient beings.

Om amideva hrih

Tigger is apparently being held by animal services in North Central LA and meez thinks he will be available for adoption from January 2.

He is a sweet little dog -- a chihuahua -- and am sure DK would have been ever so grateful to know someone had taken Tigger in.  DK was very dedicated to Tigger's care.

I think Tigger is about 5-6 years old now.

what can we do?
a petition via facebook or change.org to save Tigger?
how can we help?

At this point, there isn't anything we can do. The state requires a certain amount of time to pass, and then Tigger will be put up for adoption. So at this point, he isn't in danger of being euthanized.

I have been in contact with animal services, so if someone here does have an interest in adopting (or knows someone that does), please PM me and I'll be happy to assist and provide information.

Looks like we have the Tigger situation handled and a home for him. Thank you to everyone that might have asked anyone or tried to get him a home.

He is very deeply missed. I am greatfull for his teaching and compassion. He always taught me that my practice is my own; no one else's. Yet had a deep love for the dharma. I am glad I had a chance to thank him. Words do poor justice though.

I'm struggling to get my mind around this.  Is it true? Was there an obituary in the newspaper?   Any further news would be appreciated.

I wish it weren't true and there was some sort of mix up, but unfortunately that isn't the case. His death was confirmed by the health department.

There wasn't an obituary as he had no family or anyone appointed to act on his behalf (or even be contacted in case of his death or health emergency), so there wasn't really anyone to arrange such a thing.

I know it's quite unexpected, and I hope healing to comes to all who are impacted by this.

It's still hard to believe he's gone,  :(

Thank you for a wonderful post, Pudgala.  I had no idea DK had been struggling with a long-term illness.  Knowing that helps provide a bit of closure.

Is this a serious matter? A zen monk passing away??

We should continue our practices!

Condolences
Ankush

Dharmakara was Dharmakara—a devoted Caretaker of FreeShanga.com and not a zen monk passing away. The absence of the breeze of his presence is quite noticeable to those of us who have spent anytime surfing the word waves of this forum.

I am surprised that Dharmakara-dust still moves in my mind. I am a Zen dust-devil made up of the uplifting veridical currents that arise from the Buddha fields of Original Mind and I am pleased to have his dust drift through my mind.

This is not a serious matter and condolences don't really apply. Guiding the energy released by Dharmakara's passing into our continuing practice as you suggest is exactly what Dharmakara would have said—so his compassionate breeze moves within you only it doesn't bear his name.

Just got word of DK's death a few minutes ago from another past member of FreeSangha.  May his rebirth be beneficial and of service to all those with whom he comes in contact.  May all those who have worked with and befriended DK in the past remember their interactions with respect and loving-kindness.  May all beings live to serve The Dhamma as well as was DK's intention.

Just found out.
Feeling sad that I never got to patch things up with him.
Hope wherever he is, he's continuing to help sentient beings find their way to the Dharma.
He'll be missed.
