We have a chat!
« on: November 25, 2009, 04:07:49 am »
I installed a chat accessible from the dark blue menu above. I have no idea if it's any good as I usually don't chat. Let me know what you think.
If it's no good, we can try installing another one.

EDIT: Darn... It's not working for me now, but it worked earlier when I tested it. I guess I will have to look at it closer tomorrow.

Maybe it needs more than 1 person in the room to be able to send something.

I think that there is some other problem. First time I entered, it gave a message like "wonky has joined" or something like that and I could chat with myself. :) But now it doesn't give the join message, anything I write disappears and the logout button doesn't work. I think I'll try another chat package because I found no good answers at the support forums either.

When I try it it doesn't read my name under Online Users - should it? We should have a set time and get a few people to log in at once and test it out. I'm free Monday, if anyone wants to email me a time (with timezone) I can meet and help test it.

Alli, I think so. It worked the first time I tested it, but since then it has been pretty dead. I've tried asking at the Ajax Chat support forum, but still no reply after several days. I tried installing FlashChat, but it was pretty large and I got errors. I've been checking AChat, but it's in alpha stage and looks a bit awkward and simple. Ajax Chat would have been perfect if it only had worked.  :'(

Maybe I'll try out an IRC chat, but I think those might be a bit more complex. I'm not sure since I'm not much of a chatter.

Once again we have a chat but it's very rudimentary. It will have to do for now until I get something better working.

EDIT: And just seconds after I wrote that, I found the solution for the original chat! A small addition to a .htaccess file and WE HAVE LIFTOFF!

Yes, luckily there was such an option. I had a feeling that the chat might turn into the wild west if guests were allowed there. I hope it works well with more than one user also. Enjoy!

Investigated chat room a few days ago.  Everything seemed "ducky" as opposed to "dukkha-y".

Thanks again for your efforts.  I think this will be a excellent tool for answering questions real-time with necomers, and perhaps for training rudiments for new mods, and etc.  Perhaps even a good place for moderator meetings.
What Makes an Elder? :
A head of gray hairs doesn't mean one's an elder. Advanced in years, one's called an old fool.
But one in whom there is truth, restraint, rectitude, gentleness,self-control, he's called an elder, his impurities disgorged, enlightened.
-Dhammpada, 19, translated by Thanissaro Bhikkhu.
