Vietnam to remove all ‘copulating’ Buddha statues
« on: March 07, 2013, 11:59:12 pm »

An inspection will be done at all pagodas in Vietnam and statues depicting the Buddha hugging nude women will be removed. This is in response to recent claims that there is such a statue in Vietnam, triggering anger among many who say it is blasphemous.

Sometimes I think practitioners see Buddha as someone extremely holly.

The division of good and bad is so distinct and held to be truly true.

Actually, those distinction and seeing holliness block them to see reality beyond good and bad.

I think in the future, Buddha statue shall be in beggar statue, with his right hand hold a shit, and his left hand hold the bomb.

In this way, practitioners are more ready to see reality free from elaboration, free from good and bad.

People try to construct the image of holliness, and it is pity and those holliness finally is the one that block them without being known.

It is like the weapon killing its own owner.

Enlightenment is simply the clearing away of misunderstanding. When mistaken thinking is gone, liberation has happened. (Gampopa)

When we verbally indicate a thing as 'this' or 'that', our words, like rabbits's horns, are hollow names, mere fictive imputation upon what does not exist. (Longchenpa)

Interesting from a historical point of view, although I doubt that the statue is on public display anywhere. Just goes to show why tantra was kept secret. It is very easy to draw the wrong conclusions, if you have no idea what you are looking at.

What gets me is how people, even here react to appearances without the least bother as to just what they're seeing represent.

It is NOT the reason tantra is kept secret.  What complete nonsense. :lmfao:

I am amused, and saddened, that this whole controversy stems from a statue that has only been seen on Facebook. I remember some religious riots that followed an erroneous Facebook posting. Facebook is entertainment, not a peer-reviewed news source.

Hi GoGet,
mmm Not sure if that ball is in my court but I'm guessing it may be as you've quoted me. I read the article and whilst I don't know anything about Vietnamese tantra, I hold HYT empowerments in Tibetan Buddhism. The pair is a yab-yum (obviously) configuration, so folks have just interpreted it as sexual/disrespectful, which is an understandable mistake. That was my point too, that people will react to appearances.
