 Khyentse Rinpoche

<Translation of  Khyentse Rinpoche's disciple's Blog>

Those who read the title of this article might think I made a mistake. In most cases, it is the admirers from around the world would cry when going on a pilgrimage to see His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa. Many Buddhists think the 17th Karmapa, as a great master with practice achievement, should have little emotional reaction, not to mention shedding tear in front of people.

However, I must tell you that it is true that 17th Karmapa was in tears this time.

The thing is as below:

Some time ago, a group of aspiring pilgrims from China came to India to see the holy 17th Karmapa. Besides seeing the Dharma King in person, they actually had another purpose.
Back in China, they knew a Guru with strange behavior known as a “Monk with Crazy Wisdom ”. People know this monk as one of the five reincarnations of Jamjang Khyentse Wangbo. His name is “Ugyen DanZeng Rinpoche”, and he is in Dzogchen Temple. People call him “Khyentse Guru”
This monk is a really abandoner of secular world. For his unusual behavior and extraordinary power, controversial issue follows him.
Therefore, this pilgrim group hoped that Karmapa could mercifully determine if this monk with crazy wisdom is a reliable and trustworthy Guru.
After these pilgrims paid their homage to the 17th Karmapa, their leader took a photo of this “crazy monk” ,let Karmapa’s servant passed the photo to Karmapa and specified their doubts in mind.

In fact, his Holyness the 17th Karmapa knew the thought of every pilgrim very clearly even before they said a word. But to fit the normal human beings’ condition at that time, His Holiness still heard the leader’s question and concern carefully.

Soon afterward, a scene shocked everybody. The 17th Karmapa got agitated and tears ran down his face in front of pilgrims. In the meantime, the 17th Karmapa put the photo onto his head for a while to show his respect to this Khyentse Rinpoche.

The 17th Karmapa, who used to receive respects from other Buddhism masters , then told those Chinese pilgrims that he is amazed that such a excellent Guru still exists in modern times, and he asked those people to cherish and serve this Guru well.
With the instructions from Karmapa, these Buddhists from China swept out their doubts about the “Guru with crazy wisdom” and unshakable faith rises in their minds.

I revere the heritage and linage of Dzogchen Temple very much, so I have the fortune to meet Khyentse Rinpoche several times and to receive his bless and empowerment. It really requires tremendous fortune of merits to meet a real Dharma Guru with beneficent virtues in the dharma ending age. I pray someday all of you could meet a Guru with real Dharma virtues.
