Some of your points are inaccurate, but as they relate to the NKT I won't pursue them here, other than briefly to refute your claims.  I have personal experience of all I have written.  There may be a hint for you if you pop over to the NKT threads and read who has provided material there.  I have undergone the HYT empowerment with GKG and you are utterly incorrect in that there are considerable commitments, for example to 6 session yoga, mantra recitation etc. as well as the Tantric Vows.

Just a straight disagreement here, you do infact recieve the commitments, this is expalined carefully during the empowerment, and there are several books and sadhanas which explain what the commitments are and how they can be kept.

Empowerments have little to do with ordination, you agree - as the existence of this thread obviously shows.  However, I can assure you that HYT empowerments have been given by others for some time, in addition to the two latest sucessors to GKG, who I assume will have been trained.
How can it be false of me to assert that 'some' teachers other than GKG have given HYT empowerments when you admit to 2 or 3 yourself?

Sorry, perhaps I misunderstood you here, I thought you were saying that these newbies with a few weeks training were giving HYT. Yes, we agree that others besides GKG have give nHYT empowerment in the NKT, they number exactly two. THe two latest successors to GKG, Gen-las Khenrab and Dekyong, have never granted HYT empowerment. Why do you state this?

Rather than clutter up a Nyingma thread

ouch!

, you may start a new thread in the NKT forum about Tantric Masters and Training in the NKT? Actually, I'll do it and then you can post there and tell other NKT members all about the training - a brief outline will do. [/b]

The essence of the preparation is reliance on your Guru and your Guru's acceptance that you may perform this blessing, along with the retreats and mantra recitations.

Quote
Here's an outline of the training of a Gelugpa monk:
After 15-20 years of full time study to become a Geshe, they may then attend a Tantric College for several more years (I understand 2 is a minimum).

You really think the part-time classes at a Dharma Centre stack up?

no, of course not, it is not a competition. what I do think stacks up is 20-20 yrs of reliance on you Guru along with sincere meditation practice and study of Lamrim, lojong, mahamudra according to the Ganden tradition, lorig, etc

that would be on par with a Geshe degree for me, esp since it is well known that many of the monks who qualify for a geshe degree do so without doing any meditation, just hoping ot become a respected scholar and have a high position.

see "Sound of Two Hands Clapping" by Dreyfus to read about the rot in the Tibetan monasteries. OF course it scarcely needs to be said that this does not apply to all, does it? I am just saying there is an equivalent.

Welcome to Free Sangha btw - a strange way to introduce yourself, but very welcome anyway. :)

a qualified "Thanks!" for a qualified "Welcome."

Sorry If I am cluttering here, but I did not bring up this topic, just responding to it. move it/me where you will.... I am not particularly invested.

Nyingma.com just like the other obvious Aro link in this thread is a front for the English man who claims to be a terotn and has set up a tradition called Aro. He dismisses Tibetan monastics and says no real education or study is necessary when you can enjoy your senses. He has been claiming to be a Tibetan Buddhist for decades but speaks no classical or colloquial Tibetan and has very superficial knowledge of dharma. He dresses up his cult in cowboy gear. He is believed to be a fake terton by genuine Nyingma masters. Fake tertons are evil reincarnations channeling demonic messages as fake terma. He was told by all the lamas whose photos he has on his many sites to stop what he is doing. They all shunned him in the end. He even had his lawyer send a letter threatening to sue Ngakpa Yeshe Dorje in his final days. Chimed Rigzin Rinpoche also told him not to approach him and condemned him. The legendary king of Ngakpas, Kunzang Dorje Rinpoche, who passed away this summer told him not to visit him any more unless he stopped.  But still the Aro cult has all their photos and bios on their site. They justify the fact their tradition has no lineage, hence worthless, by these false endorsements. I read records of inner cult scandalous behavior by ex-members  in the early days of the web. Apparently the real force behind him is his wife. He claims to have (false) terma. He is allied with his American fake terton pal who has his own similar bcult called "Flaming Jewel". They pay small amounts of money towards certain charity projects to smooth their way in with some Tibetans. In one of his termas,  Dudjom Rinpoche (Jigdral Yeshe Dorje) predicted there will soon be a fake terma appearing named "Aro". Major fake tertons are the reincarnations of the small minority of evil ministers of king Trisong who opposed the king's introduction of Buddhism and constantly plotted against Padmasambhava. They reincarnate here for a short while from hellish world systems and then go back. Just a heads up for my vajra siblings posting in the thread.

I had never heard those claim of the ARO , i had found some text on their site awhile back... but now that i investigate it does seem like more than just new take on tradition, it seems like a disregard for the tradition on is claiming, if what you say is true... i would love to know more about these false tertons and false vowed westerners... because its its a path ide like to never fall down... ...

is the "flaming jewel" "cult" you mentioned, anything like the Diamond Mountain Center in Arizona...
