Two Books by HHDL
« on: September 08, 2010, 05:45:08 am »
I offer two books to any one who wants one or both.

1.  How to See Yourself As You Really Are [Hardcover] (2007).
His Holiness the Dalai Lama (Author), Jeffrey, Ph.D. Hopkins (Translator)
http://www.amazon.com/How-See-Yourself-You-Really/dp/0743290461/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283949413&sr=1-1

This is in near-new condition read by only one person (me).  My copy was printed in India and differs from the publication info given in this Amazon link.  Otherwise it is the same book but in hardcover.

2.  The Essential Dalai Lama: His Important Teachings [Paperback] (2006?)
http://www.amazon.com/Essential-Dalai-Lama-Important-Teachings/dp/0143037803/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1283949279&sr=1-1

This was purchased second hand and is a bit dogged-eared but is still a good reading copy.

I will pay postage.  In return I ask that you donate -- any amount you feel appropriate --  to the Pakistani Aid appeal currently listed on the Free Sangha opening banner.   I prefer the Red Cross, but if you feel strongly about one of the other agencies listed, please donate to them.

Send me your preferred address (and yes your real name -- a bit of trust is needed here!), and I will mail the book(s) out as soon as possible.

First come first serve (including appropriate address etc).

Cheers,
heybai

PS to the above.  The last time I did something like this a person got hung up on providing me with proof of a donation.  I don't want any such paperwork.  You mind your karma, and I'll mind mine.  Also, if you think donating online is a hassle, just remember to drop a few pesos into the next charity bucket you see.

Yeah, I saw that before I sent it.  It's in pencil but sometimes erasing can cause more damage.

It's Chinese:

道可道,非常道。名可名,非常名。

"The road that can be traveled is not the way of the Dao [Tao]
The name that can be spoken, is not the immutable name."

This is the first couplet of the Dao de Jing [Tao te Ching]

Years ago a friend and I translated it this way --

He said,
"The route that can be routed is not the trucker's way"

I said,
"The name that can be uttered is not for one to say."

 :cheesy:

Enjoy your reading.
