Hello,

I'm interested in books and resources on Tibetan Shamanism. Does anyone know anything about it? Thanks.

There's a video on VHS titled "Oracles of Ladakh", produced by an outfit called "Mystic Fire Video", that shows the oracles doing their trance thing, in response to requests for healing or to solve personal problems, from the public. They go into trance to access information clairvoyantly, that may help the "patient".  This is pure Inner Asian shamanism, almost identical to Siberian shamanism! This is the real deal. Interestingly, all the oracles in Ladakh are women, and most oracles in Tibet were said to be women, as well. The Dalai Lama, and the monastic system mostly use men, to conform with male monasticism, but I've heard of a woman oracle the DL has consulted with, as well.

I have no idea how to get a copy of the video; it used to be available through Shambala Press' mail order catalogue, but that was a long time ago.

Hello NepalianBuddhist, Look for: "Shamanism and Tantra in the Himalayas" by Claudia Müller-Ebeling, Christian Rätsch, and Surendra Bahadur Shahi. Published by Inner Traditions (Rochester. Vermont) in 2002. www.InnerTraditions.com.   Originally published in German by AT Verlag in 2000. Well produced book, 600 plus colour and black and white photos, well researched.

I hope you can find a copy. :om:
