Thornbush, that's a great idea!!  So basically we're making a sticky topic that links to those sub-forums moved into each sector they belong to, like beginning library with beginner's buddhism, general library in general buddhism etc?

If I understood your suggestion, thank you for making it!  I think it will streamline resources a lot for the user.   Wonky can make adjustments when he gets on (Europe-time) which will probably be very late tonight (early morning there).

Indeed Ogyen and thank you for response. I just recall that I have omitted in my earlier post to state that if that happens, your kind assistance is also appreciated to move the Links/Resources threads raised by myself in Theravada/Mahayana Forums to merge with the sticky link.

Many thanks again for your kind attention and action  :namaste:

Is it possible to have an "ignore" function, where if I find someone offensive, rather than create a fuss over it, I just hit "ignore" and no longer see anything they post?
There is one solution that I'm looking at. Unfortunately I don't think it ads a ignore button in the topics, but it works in such a way that you add the offensive user to your PM ignore list in your profile settings and then also their posts are ignored, showing a "you are ignoring this user" message and an option to show the post. Would that be OK?

Regarding the Library links, I'm looking into it. The package I tried to upload for that solution was listed as corrupt, so I have to check around if there is any workaround or we just have to wait for the author to release a new version.

Ok, the package is loaded. Ignoring PMs now also ignores posts. Enjoy!  :D

NOTE TO ALL USERS:
Ignoring a Mod or Admin with this feature is not recommended as it might cause you to miss out on important information and in a worst-case scenario it might even get you banned (e.g that you are repetedly asked to refrain from some certain behavior, but miss the notifications because of the having the Mod/Admin on your ignore list).

To the dear Wonky and Ogyen...

This question popped into my lunatic mind a while ago...

In case His Holiness the Dalai Lama or Ajahn Brahm wanna sign up here, as monastics, does FreeSangha have special rules for the Ordained Members like in some other Forums where they are to declare their basic Ordination credentials, photos and etc, for vetting by the Admin... so that we don't wind up with a HH Flying Spaghetti Monster XVI or Ajahn Wannabe and their Lasagna Dharma?

Am I making sense? Thank you for reading  ;D

Well... this is what I thought: We don't have time to investigate credentials actively and we don't have time to enforce credential verification in the same way it seemed to work at e-sangha, so I thought that we'd create a specific user group for those that voluntarily submit proof of their credentials. This user group would have some kind of visual feature, like a badge or different background color, showing that they have verified credentials. I have not yet gotten around to creating this user group.

Anyway, with a system like that, people could declare whatever credentials they want, but it would be visually obvious that those credentials were not verified unless they were. So if His Holiness the Dalai Lama or Ajahn Brahm were to sign up, it would be their choice if they want to roam the boards as plain Buddhists like the rest of us or if they want to flash their credentials. At least that would guarantee that we would not be seing any verified HH Flying Spaghetti Monster XVI or Ajahn Wannabe. Exactly what proof we would need to move someone over to the "verified cretentials" group I don't know yet, but if someone has ideas, please let us know!

I like the idea of Lasagna Dharma ;D

Also, I thought maybe we can put buttons on each post with 'I found this post helpful' or 'this contributes to the discussion' or something, to keep a certain level of quality. Then people can see if they are posting wild nonsense, and it will also be easier for moderators to spot it.

I am having an appreciation moment of this forum's new group.  I really like all the great ideas you guys come up with!!

I want a Lasagna Dharma!  I'll be the bodhisattva of ravioli.

I agree with what WB wrote about having a special user group for monastics if they so choose to sign up and have one on the board.  But if I were the HHDL I'd probably create a username like RavioliBodhisattva and mingle with all the peeps.  Too much pressure to be like, I'm the HHDL, and people go, nah, not likely.  And then it is!  And then everyone's awkward...  and afraid to post.

Dearest Admin/Mods/Fellow Forum Mates,

This is a wacky one... :D

There are some Forum sites that limit guests/lurkers viewing their site to only 1 or 2 Forums/sub-Forums and some are totally restricted for members only with the intention of encouraging guests/lurkers to sign up for full access...after all membership does have its privileges  ;D

So right now, we are kinda like no holds barred except:
1. for the Chat function and
2. the forum posting privilege

Am I making sense? Thanks for reading  :namaste:

I have found two options. One where you can leave a small "Thanks" at the bottom of the helpful post and one where you vote posts up/down, reddit style.
Any preferences?

While I am tempted to get more people to sign up, I'm not quite sure. Let's say that there potentially is a piece of information in here that could get a guest closer to enlightenment, and that this guest misses out on it because he doesn't feel like signing up. I'd like to give that guest a chance. And chances also are that a person that is reluctant to sign up, wouldn't be much of a contributor anyway. I don't want to fill up the member list with people that never login.

If you have any ideas, let me know. Please feel free to open your own topics in the suggestion box.

Well done Wonky I think Freesangha has the potential to be a really informative and friendly site.  However, I still can't seem to access chat? : -\

Best wishes

Hm... Were there many users in the chat at the time? It seems to be working now. Might have been a problem with my host. If it happens again, I'll start digging around in logs and whatever I can find to see if there is a problem with the database or CPU resources.
