We need moderators!

Currently I'm alone. I can't be here 24/7. So now I'm looking for moderators.
I don't really know any good selection process but I'd like the moderators to be patient, tolerant and mindful.
The person(s) should have been active here for a while and have showed good judgement, not lashing out or retaliating when provoked.

Any ideas? Volunteers? Nominations?
Also please comment if you think that I'm wrong about something. My goal is not to be the "boss" of this place, but to hopefully be able to hand over decissions to a counsil of some sort, made up of members from all traditions.

My suggestion is dont use anyone with esangha mod experience. See the eshagha watch website for details. Also make sure the tradition / power balance is spread equally. Another thot is that anyone who craves the job is likely not fit for it, whenever possible i would draft rather than take volunteers.

Ok, so do you feel that someone with esangha mod experience couldn't adapt to our posting rules?  By the way I checked out the Esangha Watch website, and it seems most complaints came from the Japanese Zen moderation?  The person founding the esangha watch website: Jundo Cohen (for reference if anyone wants to check it out).

For the record, no group will "not be allowed" to discuss here, as long as members stay within the posting guidelines, we encourage skepticism and people doing their own research.  We will do our best to moderate that content is correct and factual, and opinions are opinions, but we aren't here to state what lineages are valid and which aren't.  Since Buddhism doesn't have a sole "authority" figure like a "pope" there is probably quite an open discussion even among Buddhist groups.  This forum should reflect that diversity in discussion.  Our moderators will comply with that openness.  Lively discussions are welcome, but we will institute a "discern this as fact or opinion" type policy.  All opinions welcome as long as they are stated as such.  And we will also request that "wild" claims have supporting evidence to back them as facts.  If there isn't any evidence, moderators will enforce that posts with said claims are opinion/interpretation based and not necessarily views held by the Buddhist community at large.

1. No opinions should be expressed or prefered by a moderator.
2. The purpose of moderators should be to enforce the ability of those who post to express their opinions freely...as long as they do not go outside the bounds of normal civil behaviour on the forum.
3. Belittling of other's opinions, insulting other's opinions, name-calling, and such should be surpressed by the moderator.
4. As the rule is not too allow posters with more than one account...anyone with more than one account should be told to close all accounts except one...their choice. If they refuse to do that...or continue to operate multiple accounts...they should just be banned.
5. As Buddhists we should practice right thought and right action. Thus courtesy and consideration for others is what we must practice on this forum. Moderators should enforce that standard.
6. Moderators should be able to privately contact other forum members and warn them if they feel that the posters are taking inappropriate actions. The purpose of this would be so that the posters can stop any actions deemed inappropriate before action will be taken against them. The rule should be..a private warning before any public censure or bannning.

I actually feel that the moderator team has a right to express their opinions as long as they do it in normal posts, as any other member, and not through editing or moderator's comments in others' posts.

This sangha is here for the moderators as much as for the rest of you. They should have the same rights. In a sense, I have not given priviliges to them; they have volunteered to provide a service to the rest of you, so that you can have a meaningful and enjoyable experience here.

I might not have handled the yesterday's little problem perfectly (I probably should have done it earlier and enforced harder moderation regarding controversial claims), but I want to remind you that we're mostly beginners here. This forum is two weeks old tomorrow (Yay!). Give us some time and we'll get it together.

People who moderate are just as capable of having an opinion as others. The point is to not act as if theirs is the only right opinion. After all, that is what they are expecting from everyone else.
