I do this not for me, but for others who need it. I would like atleast of these online sanghas to survive spamwars.

I recommend we proactively contact Namdrol and Henry to assist as moderators.  I need my Sakya fix!

Do they even know about this site?  I don't know how to contact either, if Henry you mean Henry Chia, then I have him as a friend on facebook, but the way he went off at the troll on BC seemed... irresponsible.  Unless his account was stolen and it was the troll...

I also doubt henry would go so far.

I've also contacted Namdrol

Thanks for the link!!  I don't know about Henry... his postings contained cursing (female body parts) and well, you can see for yourself here and here .  I wouldn't make someone a moderator who addresses another like this even if it is a troll... seems kinda unnecessary and power-trippy on the internet... Could just be me though...   :twocents:  I'm sure for everything else, he's a really nice person.  It just seemed inappropriate given the context of a public forum where people who know nothing about Henry might get turned off at the language used...  It wasn't like a private exchange, it was a very vulgar exchange of curses that was also very public.  On the plus side he employed the foulest of his language on his own comments page.  For that I was at least grateful...

I am convinced that persona was Kala. None of us regulars could challenge him on his home ground, so he created a famous persona that could... And ultimately failed.

Mr. Gordo, I'd love that.   :worthy:
But I don't think they'll do it.

Kindly,
Laura

IMO one should not try to make this another "e-sangha".

Kind regards

For the record, this is Free Sangha, we are not (afaik) trying to create Esangha2.0.  Wonky made the site look a lot like esangha mostly for those of us that were used to the interface and felt comfortable with it.  We just want to have a forum that (like esangha) people could spend time learning as if in an "online" sangha.  It's meant to be a cool place to connect with other Buddhists worldwide and share our resources/studies/insights/practice.  Of course, I've now heard a few people say, but how long with the coolness last as the site grows.  From a moderator's perspective, my approach is the staff should take care of the posting guidelines and members and the growth/atmosphere will reflect that.

Yes, leading by example is very important too... being exemplars of the behaviour you expect from others.

Yes, what were trying to do is to keep a balance on the moderator team os that all traditions are evenly represented. Right now we might actually be looking for a Theravada moderator. Someone levelheaded with an angel's patience, that is more interested in keeping the atmosphere nice than policing the dharma.
My actions are my only true belongings.
I cannot escape the consequences of my actions.
My actions are the ground on which I stand.

That is a good idea Wonky, maybe you should post that in the Theravada board.
