Privacy, security and other issues on the WWW
« on: May 20, 2015, 12:34:17 pm »
There's certainly a group of Buddhists willing to try out anything and everything connected to the worldwide web, from Twitter and Facebook, to the craze over Apple products, but I wonder how much thought people really give to privacy, security and surveillance issues when activating such services and products --- there's actually a recent Pew Research report that examined this topic and it makes an interesting (and cautionary) read:

I don't think about these things much at all.

I grew up in a small farming community where people didn't lock their doors and a neighbour would  check on you if they didn't see or hear from you in a couple of days.
The only technology was phone and radio, later TV.

I hear about problems with technology security and see it on TV but it does not seem to be in my nature to get shaky about it.

I should be more concerned.
