Question:

  I would like to address my responses to a post point by point, but when I try to do it my posts get grouped with the quote from the other poster. How do I keep my posts properly separated from the text I am responding to?

Answer:

[ quote] (no spaces) and then [ / quote] again with no spaces. 

For example:
[ quote ]xyz xyz xyz[/ quote ] (but with no spaces between [ and quote)
xyz xyz
[ quote ]xyz xyz xyz[/ quote ]
xyz xyz

looks like:

xyz xyz xyz

xyz xyz

xyz xyz xyz

xyz xyz

Hi! I looked at my profile stuff and saw that my email is visible for all to see .... I guess .... guessing because I'm a flintstone in many ways. I would like to hide my email from public view. How to do it? Thanks in advance! Greetings from the happy fool on the hill!

Click on "Profile" at the top of the page on the menu bar, then "Account Related Settings", and finally you need to check the box to hide your email address for public view



Click Change Profile to finalize your choice, you new hidden email will appear to you in italics.  This means others can't see it.

Hi Dharmakara,
From the very beginning I did check the box to hide my email address for public view. It is still visible.
Should I, before making a change, first go to the bottom of the page, fill in my password, then click the blue box at the bottom to allow a change to happen? That is what I have done.
 
Then I do check the box: Hide email address for public view?
I also again fill in whatever seems to be necessary to fill in again.   
Then I again click the blue box: change profile, at the very bottom of the page ....
Is this last action necessary?
I have tried out many ways of hiding my email address. Have not succeeded yet.
Should my email address be there at all?

Anna, I just looked at your profile, your email is hidden.  If the email address appears normal it means it's visible.  If it appears italicized then it's hidden.

Does that clarify your question?

Question: HOW DO I DISABLE SMILEYS??

Answer: Go to your profile. Under "Modify Profile" there is "Look and Layout Preferences". There set "Current Smiley Set" to "No Smileys" and press "Save". Done!

I wonder if it is possible to explain, when people post a reply, how they manage technically to quote a part of someone's post and make that part appear in a blue box above (or below) their own new reply.
It would be sooooooo cooool to be able to do that too

Look at the top RIGHT of this post in reply to your post. You should see the word, "Quote". Click that on this post and this post is "Quoted" in a new reply window for you. Scroll to below the end of the quote, (past the [/quote] that ends each quote box) and type your NEW text.

What I would like to be able to do though is to take for example one or two sentences from somebody's post with many sentences, and quote only the two by me selected sentences, and make only them two sentences appear in a blue box when I post a new post about the topic in question.

You are making perfect sense. What you want to do is QUOTE the post of interest then cursor between the opening and end of that QUOTED passage. Delete what you don't want.

Also, you can click REPLY and get the blank REPLY text box. Scroll down and you see the posts that precede your pending one. At the top right of each there is an "Insert Quote" hyperlink. Click this and that posts is quoted and inserted in to your reply. You still have to edit to focus on what interests you.
