Casting off the Mask

 :r4wheel:Khenpo Tamgrin Rinpoche:

Some person seems generous and broad-minded, but actually his mind has not been broadened through wisdom, and he is unable to know the pros and cons either. Whether being benefited or hurt, he just has no feelings. He will not repay the person who has benefited him, nor will he fight the person who has hurt him. He never cares about what is beneficial to him both mundanely and transmundanely, nor does he mind what is harmful to him either in this life or in future lives. Such a person is just like a stone under the sea, which will not change a little no matter how many years soaked in water.

From the mundane law perspective, such a person hasn’t really cast off or broadened his mind, simply caring about nothing and not knowing what is good or bad. This is not a good thing.

Even following the transmundane law, one should still understand the pros and cons and make some decisions. For some people, it is very hard to have them do something, even having been told a hundred times, they just reply easily: “Ok, I will do it.” But they will just not do it. There are also such people among our volunteers who have aroused the aspiration to do things. Have they really opened mind and cast off everything, and even had no feelings at all? Not really. Actually, it is not possible to have no feelings even for a person who has cast off everything.

Such a situation is caused by indolence, and can be said a kind of demerit of indolence. One without indolence will definitely observe carefully and select cautiously, rather than performing like those mentioned above.
