First of all, what is liberation and what is attaining Buddhahood? We must understand these. Many people only have a hazy notion. Liberation means transcendencefromthe three realms; attaining Buddhahood means the completeness of merit and wisdom. Simply speaking, so called liberation is having no afflictions and pains. In samsara, everyone is the same, cannot get rid of the afflictions and pains. However, if we transcend the samsara, we will not suffer again. So called attaining Buddhahood is the completeness of merit and wisdom. Buddha is not a deity, but someone who has perfected the merit and wisdom.

Why do we emphasize this point? When speaking of “liberation” or “attaining Buddhahood”, many people just regard them as the views or terms of Buddhism, and it seems like they have nothing to do with oneself. Actually it is not true, the reason is that we are not understand the meaning of liberation and attaining Buddhahood.
