Is he moderating or just participating?
« on: January 11, 2010, 03:32:40 pm »
Hey folks,

I was recently asked to help out as a moderator in the Tibetan Buddhism forum since Tibetan Vajrayana is what I'm most familiar with, so in wanting to be helpful I agreed. I believe in being very up front, so I just wanted to communicate some stuff so we can all just do our thing and be comfortable and enjoy this resource.

First off, I'm just a regular Joe Vajrayana practitioner, no one special, and even though I'm now a moderator, I still like to participate and I enjoy this place for the same reasons you do. Like any member on this site, at times I may agree with you, at other times I may disagree, debate with you, and even question something you've said, and I'm obviously just as likely as anyone else to be wrong. Except when it comes to FreeSangha's TOS, there is no expectation or obligation for you to accept my or any moderator's point of view on anything. Unless I make it explicitly clear that my interaction is intended as moderation, I'm just participating like any other member. If you ever have any questions about an interaction, or if I ever rub you the wrong way, please be open with me about it so I can do the right thing. Same goes for any moderation I may ever have to do, which judging by our current membership is much more likely to be organizational stuff rather than "policing." If I've not been sufficiently clear about what I've done or why, PM me and let me do the right thing. Anyway, hopefully you get the gist of my style and my intentions... Now back to your regularly scheduled program.

Brian, thank you for you upfront style. I for one greatly appreciate it.  If anything like an issue comes up, let us know, or we'll let you know.  Moderators are just regular members with who have agreed to take on the responsibility to keep the discussion civil in their sections.  Since moderators are not here to police what is believed, said, etc.  You seem to have this down pat me I'm just  :chatter:.  What I'm saying (poorly) is by all means participate away!

Thanks Ogyen.
As for you, though, young lady... Probably 99% of the time you're perfectly clear and acting perfectly fine, despite what you think. Don't be so self-conscious! Or you'll be punished! And the beatings will continue until morale improves! :wacky:

I am still waiting for my certificate that announces me as King Emperor of the Universe. It must be lost in the mail. Until I receive it, everyone may treat me like an ordinary Joe.   :cheesy:

I agree, well spoken Brian.

Hi Pema

thank you. That is a helpful post because this (hopefully) helps me to clear some of my habitual misconceptions regarding moderators in this forum. When I say "this forum" this means that I may have aquired conceptions elsewhere and uncritically applied these in this forum.

Kind regards
