Is it right not to get married?
« on: June 25, 2015, 07:30:59 pm »
Question: Marriage and family will bring us pains and troubles, so is it right not to get married?

Khenpo Tamgrin Advises:

Nobody is prohibiting you from getting married and having children, but you shall not be obsessed on it. Everything should accord with conditions, and of course you can get married. Once you are obsessed, not marrying or not having children is also a kind of affliction. Once you have obtained wisdom and could see through and let it go, getting married or having children is also a sort of happiness and liberation.

Why hadn’t Buddha given teaching 49 days after his manifestation of obtaining Buddhahood? The concern is that people might not understand and believe it. Once coming to emptiness, they think nothing exists. Once coming to existence, they turn to be obsessed on real existence. Similarly here, once talking about marriage and having children being affliction seeking, they think people should not get married. It is a kind of prejudice and not the fact.
